My name is Mitra Masoumy Esfandi and I’m an avid believer of happiness opens doors to endless possibilities in life. I believe we can find true happiness if we follow our heart and if we can do what we love to do. Art has always been a true passion for me. I started taking art lessons from early ages in Iran, where every summer my super supportive mother cruised all over town from my oil painting & drawing classes to my piano lesson, calligraphy class, and etc.
Regretfully, I stopped pursuing my true passion for about 17 years. Unfortunately, circumstances in my life deviated my educational direction from what I truly loved, academic art study. I attended the University of Texas and received a BS in Medical Dosimetry and Masters in Health Administration from the University of Cincinnati. I pursued a career in health care, where art became only a hobby. However, I eventually reached a point in my life that I was able to resume my journey in oil painting more actively. It sure felt like starting to walk again after a very long period of sitting!
I resumed my art education as a self-directed study by taking impressionist style oil painting lessons from an award-winning artist, Sylvia Trybeck at HCAA (Houston Civic Arts Association); Khaled Zaytoun’s Art School in Cairo, Egypt (where I resided for 2 years as an expat); workshops by great artists, Holly Hunter Berry in Houston, Texas and Christine Lafuente at Acadia Workshop Center in Bernard, Maine; and studied the colors and composition more in depth through books and online studies.
